👑 Does Gold Exist in the Runiverse?
As for Gold in the Runiverse, and the question as to whether it can be created… absolutely it can. And this is a major point of contention and conflict across the land.
Everything in the Runiverse is a commentary and inspired by what’s happening in our IRL world, just like your Wizard is a reflection of you.
So in our world, we see a USD world hegemon, and that dominance is in question now more than ever because it is being created from nothing. And you’ve got a thousand other fiat’s under the control of fallible, political agendas, AND to put things even more in flux, a hundred thousand cryptocurrencies that are also being created, some with noble intent, but most not.
And finally, we do indeed have gold in IRL which ostensibly serves as the asset of all assets, a precious metal that carries beauty, some utility, but most importantly a narrative of historical significance that stretches back centuries across all cultures.
🪄 Can Gold Be Created By Magical Means?
Probably. It's likely that Red Wizards are commissioning some rogue Blue Wizards (the best alchemists in the lands), to do so, there’s probably secret laboratories on the abandoned islands of Alchemists Archipelago where bootleg labs are manufacturing the stuff.
But because it is so difficult, historically the ultimate end goal of all Alchemy, one imagines sthey are only able to fabricate precious few grams a month. And the Reds are beginning to wonder if the cost is worth it…
Now, the academic establishment of the Blues certainly do not approve of this clandestine gold making, especially because it’s being done for profit and NOT spiritual enlightenment. And I imagine that if we really went deep, and inspected this alchemy gold operation, we may find that these rogue Blues actually have not cracked the code on this process, but by some unholy alliance with the dregs of Goblintown, they have enslaved a poor ugly fairy from the Fey, who can make the stuff through fairy magic. Of course this requires them to shackle and torture this wild creature who should be free, this wild fairy who cares nothing for gold and has no idea why others want it. And the rogue Blues who have enslaved him for profit become more and more dehumanized as they torture the fairy for grams of gold.
This all comes to a head when the Reds who have been buying this stuff finally realize that this is fairy gold, not real gold, and when they put it on the Golden Scales (from the Athenaeum) it evaporates into fairy dust- the markets come crashing down, and many assets from the Red Capital that we were backed by fairy gold become worthless overnight.
💰 What is the Main Currency of the Runiverse if not Gold?
Just like our world, many currency experiments are being tried, some have noble intent, but most are get rich quick schemes involving flawed alchemy, greed, and fairy gold.
